“This has been an overwhelming loss for the family,” said Connie Valens, Ritchie’s sister. “We hope that whoever is responsible does the right thing and return the photos and poster.” The family would also like to ask Ritchie’s fans to pray and to thank them for their love, encouragement, and support.

About Ritchie Valens:

Rock ‘n’ Roll legend, Ritchie Valens made history as rock music’s first Latino star with popular songs such as “La Bamba” and “Donna.” Credited with being the forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens was one of the original pioneers of Rock ’n’ Roll. Since his untimely death at the age of 17, along with Buddy Holly, and “The Big Bopper” in a tragic plane crash, 60 years ago this week, his music has gained in popularity and influenced generations of musicians. Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana are both cited as influenced by Valen’s guitar playing. Artists from Led Zeppelin to Los Lobos have recorded his music.

“Ritchie Valens is a legendary artist that still resonates today,” said Ani Khachoian, Executive Vice President of Licensing & Consumer Products at C3 Entertainment. “We are honored to add this classic brand to the C3 roster and explore new opportunities to share Valens’ legacy with his loyal audience as well as a new generation of fans.”

See Valorous TV at the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl this Saturday

In The News

Valorous TV, an official sponsor of this Saturday’s Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, will be in attendance of all scheduled events, in addition to the game. During game day, Dec. 22, Valorous will have an official booth for attendees to visit during the Ulterra Tailgate Outpost from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm (CT). The Tailgate Outpost is a free event open to the public and will feature a full exhibition area that will include interactive displays, current and vintage military hardware, food trucks and more.

Valorous CEO Earl Benjamin said, “We are thrilled to be part of this annual college tradition which also pays tribute to our great Armed Forces.”

ArmedForcesBowl-WebsiteSliderArtworkThe 16th edition of the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl is set for Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2:30 p.m. (CT)/12:30 p.m. (PT). The game is played at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the campus of Texas Christian University and is televised nationally on ESPN.

Played in honor of the Armed Forces of the United States, it is the only collegiate football bowl game that has hosted all three U.S. Military Academy football teams – Air Force (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015), Army (2010, 2017) and Navy (2013, 2016).

The Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl has featured the “armed forces” theme since 2006. Patriotic overtones recognizing all five branches of the service are prevalent throughout the game. Past Armed Forces Bowls have included fan-fest adventure areas showcasing armed forces hardware; flyovers; demonstrations by several of the military’s top skydiving teams; custom homes awarded to wounded warriors; on-field induction ceremonies; armed forces bands and honor guards; the annual Great American Patriot Award presented by Armed Forces Insurance; and the annual Armed Forces Merit Award.

This year’s game will feature The Houston Cougars and Army West Point Black Knights. The game has been officially announced as sold out, according to the Armed Forces Bowl website (see their latest blog post about it here). The winner of the game will be the first ever to win the Armed Forces Bowl three times. Last year’s game saw Army West Point score 14 points in the final 18 seconds to defeat San Diego State, 42-35. It was the second straight Armed Forces Bowl decided in the closing seconds. CBSSports.com has ranked it as the third-best bowl game each of the past two years. The football contest is one of 14 bowls produced by ESPN Events.

Make sure to stop by and say hi if you are attending. We’d love to see all of our subscribers representing Uncommon Valor at the bowl!

Valorous TV to Exclusively Premiere New Documentary, Black Hawk Down: The Untold Story

C3 Entertainment, Press Releases

Los Angeles, CA – November 5, 2018 – Valorous TV, the all new digital streaming subscription
service from Valorous Media, will be premiering the brand new documentary, Black Hawk
Down: The Untold Story in honor of the 25th anniversary of the rescue mission, in conjunction
with Veteran’s Day, on Monday, November 12, 2018. This documentary film features never before
seen footage, with stories told directly by the troops who were on the ground during the
Battle of Mogadishu, as well as commentary by General Mark A. Milley, the 39th Chief of Staff
of the U.S. Army. Valorous TV is the exclusive streaming service to premiere this impactful
documentary.

Black Hawk Down: The Untold Story is a one-hour documentary on the heroic efforts of the
soldiers from the 2nd Battalion 14th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (2-14). The story
of 2-14 was left untold in the feature motion picture, Black Hawk Down (2001). These soldiers
from the 10th Mountain Division demonstrated extraordinary courage, skill, and discipline as
they fought their way into a “baited ambush” to rescue the 99 special operations forces pinned
down at the crash site of Super Six-One while also attempting a rescue at the crash site of
Super Six-Four–what many have described as the most ferocious urban combat since the
Battle for Huế during the Tet Offensive in 1968.

“It is very special for Valorous TV to premiere this exciting new documentary,” said Earl
Benjamin, President and CEO of Valorous TV. “The film finally tells the whole story behind this
incredible display of valor, bravery and sacrifice by our great United States Military.”

Executive produced and directed by Colonel Randall Larsen, USAF (Ret). Larsen is the CEO of
Randall Larsen Presents, a company dedicated to bringing great stories in film and print to the
American public. He previously served as a professor and department chair at the National War
College.

“I am extremely proud to help tell the untold story of the soldiers from Task Force 2-14,” says
Larsen. “After a quarter of a century, it is time to set the record straight.”

Ritchie Valens Festival To Celebrate Memorial Highway Named in His Honor

Press Releases, Ritchie Valens

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 6, 2018 – A stretch of the 5 Freeway in the Northeast San Fernando Valley will be renamed the Ritchie Valens Memorial Highway in honor of the local rock legend.

A family-friendly festival and movie screening of La Bamba will be held at Ritchie Valens Park in Pacoima (10731 Laurel Canyon Blvd) on August 25th from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm to celebrate the official unveiling of the Ritchie Valens Memorial Highway signs.

“Ritchie Valens exemplifies the talent and greatness that Ritchie Valens Fest 2108exists in this community — breaking barriers as one of the first Latino musicians to cross over to mainstream rock and roll,” said Los Angeles City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez. “His music was the soundtrack for generations of Angelenos and his legacy is a source of pride for our Pacoima community.

“His music inspired and influenced a generation of Chicano artists in our community and throughout the world. It’s only fitting to name this segment of the I-5 after a Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer who grew up right here in Pacoima,” Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra, D-Pacoima, said when he announced the legislation’s passage. This event is presented by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez and the Ritchie Valens Tribute Committee, the event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, and a screening of the movie, La Bamba at 7:30 pm.

Confirmed performers include DJ Rhythm Donor (Bobby Arias), Backyard Blues Band (featuring Mario Valens, and the Ritchie Valens tribute performers, Ernie Valens Band.

About Ritchie Valens: A legendary artist who still resonates today, Ritchie Valens rose to fame in the late 1950’s as the first Latino rock star and a pioneer of rock ’n’ roll with hits such as “La Bamba,” “Come On, Let’s Go,” and “Donna.”

Valens began recording for Del-Fi Records in 1958. In a career spanning only eight months, he recorded three albums of over 30 songs and released nine singles including five chart-toppers with “Donna” peaking at #2 on the Billboard pop chart in 1958.

Ritchie Valens along with legendary musicians Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper died in a tragic plane crash on February 3, 1959, during their Winter Dance Party tour; a day referred to as the day the music died.

Since his untimely death at the age of 17, his music has gained in popularity and influenced generations of musicians. Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana are both cited as influenced by Valens’ guitar playing. Artists from Led Zeppelin to Los Lobos have recorded his music.

Valens who was inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, is remembered with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a major motion picture, La Bamba, a U.S. Postage Stamp, and namesake soft drink.

Chef Jason Santos New Boston Restaurant, Citrus & Salt, Opens November 21st

Chef Jason Santos, In The News

Citrus & Salt Opens Next Week, and There Will Be Dole Whips

Boston Eater November 13, 2017

longtime Back Bay restaurant will be reborn next week with a new name, new menu, and new decor. On Tuesday, November 21, Back Bay Harry’s transforms into Citrus & Salt, a Baja-inspired restaurant with a menu that reflects chef Jason Santos’s enthusiasm for the coastal cuisine of Southern California and Mexico.

Just nine months after debuting the New Orleans-inspired Buttermilk & Bourbon in the former BarLola space, Santos moves west for his newest project. The Mexico- and California-influenced menu at Citrus & Salt (142 Berkeley St.) features items like braised lamb flautas, Jonah crab tostadas, a duck carnitas empanada, beer-battered fish tacos, and ceviche, as Boston Magazinereports. As previously reported, the menu is meant to be a bit analogous to that of Buttermilk & Bourbon. The latter has oyster chowder, for example, while the former will have crab and cactus chowder. Buttermilk & Bourbon has honey-glazed biscuits with smoked cinnamon butter; Citrus & Salt will have agave-glazed blue cornmeal biscuits with smoked canela (aka cinnamon) butter and poblano-pepper jack spread.

Santos has partnered with chef Zen Hyderck, who comes to Citrus & Salt from the Waldorf Astoria in Boca Raton, Florida. Hyderck will oversee the menu, which boasts a signature item from his previous state: Dole Whip appears on the restaurant’s dessert menu. Diners may recognize this pineapple-flavored dessert from Disney, where it’s a cult classic. Citrus & Salt’s version will be served in a pineapple cup, and other desserts include additional sorbet flavors and churros.

On the drinks side, general manager and partner Colleen Hagerty has built a menu that features beer, wine, cocktails, and a selection of margaritas made with fruit purées. Citrus & Salt will offer red and white sangrias, a shareable margarita, and drinks accompanied by paletas, or popsicles. Additionally, there will be nitro cold brew coffee available on tap with chocolate tequila, cinnamon, and whipped cream.

The renovated space — designed by Boston-based Assembly Design Studio — features light accents, including pink tinted walls, wood panels, a succulent wall, and a skeleton mural, with twinkling light fixtures hanging overhead. Not pictured here: the “Garden of Santeria,” a darker dining room in the rear (available for private events) that features lounge furniture, greenery, and blacklight-responsive murals. The restaurant seats 150, with 20 at the main dining room bar.

Citrus & Salt will be open from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, with the kitchen open until 10 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, the kitchen will stay open until 11 p.m. while the bar will remain open until 1 a.m. The restaurant will later add lunch and brunch service.Sarah_Storrer_Eater_Citrus_Salt_106
